"You are Cancer so next month you'll meet your lifelong partner, a true love. You are a Virgo, so you'll soon receive a million dollars." Those kinds of statements have no foundation for individual human beings. You can use some of the explanations to point it out, yet mostly it will not work.
Why are they popular then, if it doesn't work? Everything is simple - people need it to work. They don't want to hear about the negative aspects of their lives, themselves. Also, they rarely want to spend time digging inside their mind & soul.
Basic needs are quite the same for everyone everywhere. Desires are also pretty similar. So if you push those, people will come.
Yet it won't help in most cases. Unless such a prognosis would work as a wild guess. But you don't need astrology for wild guesses. 50/50 you can do it yourself.
There are lots of things you can do yourself you can live your whole life without astrology or any other science (let's not go into if Astrology is a real science or not, cause it's just a matter of approval by rulers - what is "real/official" and what is not).
